A small country with a compact, regulated education sector and a student visa built around approved courses and providers.
New Zealand (Aotearoa) is a small island nation with a relaxed pace of life and a compact education system. International students must study with approved providers.
Qualifications sit within the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF), with quality overseen by national bodies.
General examples only. Actual length depends on the course and institution.
Universities, institutes of technology and polytechnics, private training establishments and wānanga (Māori tertiary institutions) all exist. The structure of the polytechnic sector has been restructured in recent years, so check the current status of any institution.
Qualifications and providers are quality-assured by national bodies, and providers must follow a code of practice for the pastoral care of international students. Choose an approved provider and course.
Providers set their own entry and English requirements. For the visa, English ability is not itself a requirement according to Immigration New Zealand, but your course may require it.
Fees depend on the provider and level. Use the provider's international fee page. Scholarships are available from providers and from the New Zealand Government for some applicants.
Admission is not a visa. An offer of place is needed for the visa, but Immigration New Zealand decides the application independently.

A post-study work visa exists for eligible graduates. Eligibility depends on your qualification and field.
Examples only. This is not a ranking and not a list of our partner institutions.
Post-study and residence pathways depend on qualification level, field and the rules at the time you apply. Not guaranteed.
Fee Paying Student Visa (most common route)
For students paying international fees themselves or with family, loan or partial-scholarship support, studying full-time on an approved course. Other student visas exist depending on course and circumstances.
